Edison Park, at the city’s northwest corner, calls itself the village in the city. Its small downtown sits around the Metra station on Northwest Highway, and its streets are lined with single-family homes, from older frame houses and bungalows to post-war brick homes and newer construction.
The neighborhood sits close to O’Hare. Since 1996, the city’s Residential Sound Insulation Program has insulated thousands of homes near the airport, adding acoustical windows and doors and, in some homes, central air so residents could keep windows closed.
That matters for HVAC: air conditioners installed through the program in its early years are now well past typical service life, and many owners are deciding how to replace them.
